in the trial.

Two residents who are in the palliative
phase of their disease. The reason for including them
is that they are doubly incontinent and their skin is
extremely frail. These residents at present are showered
2nd daily and bed sponged on the day that they are not
showered.

Two residents who are very difficult
to manage when attending to their personal hygiene needs.
The reason that they are difficult is due to their aggressive
behaviour towards staff when attending to their personal
hygiene needs.
Evaluation of Peri-Foam;
1. Presentation of product (labelling)

Comments; Peri-foam container is well
presented, and labelled. The tin has
instructions on how to use the product, and the ingredients
of product.
The container is also well labelled cautions for use and
safety instruction,
e.g. where to keep it house when not in use, that it is
a flammable gas.
The instruction and cautions are very easy to read.

skin integrity;
The benefit of Peri-foam is that it cleans contains Tea
Tree oil, which is
beneficial for the residents skin integrity as it moisturises,
protects and
soothes the skin, and eliminates odours. This is particularly
good for the
residents who are in the palliative phase of their disease,
and who have frail
skin and are not showered daily
- Was there a reduction in resident aggression?
Yes, there was a reduction in resident aggression,
due to the fact that it
works efficiently and effective therefore reduces the time
it takes to wash the
resident, as it eliminates the extra time taken to apply
moisturising cream to
their skin. Therefore the resident becomes less irritated,
and agitated by the
staff interaction.
- Reduction in time spent with the resident?
Yes it reduced the time spent on the resident when attending
to their
personal hygiene needs, due to the fact that the product
cleans, moisturises,
soothes and deodorise the resident in one action.

Advantages of the trialed product.

particularly for resident who have opened their bowels.

Time effective due to it's dual purpose,
it cleans, moisturises, soothes, and deodorise. Therefore
reduces the amount of time and handling of the residents
when attending to their personal hygiene needs, therefore
the resident has less time to become agitated, anxious
and irritated by the nursing intervention. Therefore less
resident aggression, and reduces the resistive behaviour
displayed by the resident.

For the residents who are in the palliative
phase of their disease as it reduces the need to be showered
every day, is a moisturiser, soothing on the skin, and
a deodorises, and reduces the amount of manual handling
they require when attending to their personal hygiene
needs.

Recommendation;
That Peri-foam be introduced at Garrawarra and to be used
on resident who are doubly incontinent, that are in the
palliative phase of their disease, and for resident who
display aggressive or resistive behaviours when attending
to their personal hygiene needs.
